In order to become a CHAMPION a cat must compete against other cats of the same breed and sex and color for awards. Every registered cat over the age of eight months starts its show career in the OPEN class. A first place award (blue) in the OPEN class is accompanied by a red/white/blue Winners Ribbon. Once a cat has collected six (6) of these winners ribbons, it becomes a Champion. At its next show it will be eligible to compete against other champions for points toward the Grand Champion title.

Awarding of Points in a Final

Any Champion placing in the top ten (or five) Bests in Show will automatically receives points towards Grand Championship. The highest placing Champion will receive one point for every benched Champion defeated. The second highest placing Champion will receive 90% of the points awarded the highest placing Champion, third highest 80%, etc. This awarding of points applies to the Best Champion, Best Longhair/Best Shorthair, and Allbreed rings. Wins made in Championship competition may not be transferred to Premiership records.

Breed and Division Points

a. Cats which receive the award of Best Champion in each of the Breeds/Divisions currently recognized for Championship competition will receive one Grand Championship point for every benched Champion defeated within the Breed/Division.

b. In all cases an entry will receive the points from only one award per ring - that which carries the most points.

Number of Points Required

Two hundred (200) points are required for Grand Championship in Mainland U.S., Canada, Japan and the International Division. In Hawaii, Russia, Asia (except Japan), Mexico, Central America, South America and United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), seventy-five (75) points are required for Grand Championship.
